Day 1:  Arrival in Kalamata Airport (seasonal) or Athens Airport.

Transfer from Kalamata Airport (Athens on request) to 4 - star hotel. Bike testing and adjustment as well as a little warm-up tour through the beautiful City of Kalamata.

Kalamata is in the heart of the Messinian Bay, has a long beach just in front of the coastal road, a big local market, a unique nightlife, many water front beach bars and a Frankish castle in the center of the city and its old town.

Day 2:     Kalamata - Petalidi - Ag. Andreas   49 km

After a breakfast buffet at the hotel, we are on our way along the coastal road and its many beaches to the little fishing village of Ag. Andreas. We can take a lunch break anywhere, at the many tavernas, beaches, or in the wonderful quiet olive groves and orange plantations.

  Day 3:     Ag. Andreas - Koroni - Finikounda - Methoni  32 km

We are biking from Ag. Andreas on the coastal road to Koroni. Koroni is a beautiful settlement with plenty of cafes and taverns in front of the fishing harbour. You will enjoy the breathtaking view of the medieval castle built by Franks and Venetians from the 13th to the 17th century. We will continue our bike tour through the brilliant hills on our way to Finikounda - a quaint fishing village with a long sandy beach, an ideal paradise for windsurfing anf kitesurfing enthusiasts. This lovely village hosts some wonderful shopping for the ladies.

Day 4: Methoni - Pylos - Gialova - Voidokilia beach - Pylos  30 km

Leaving Methoni we bike towards Pylos on the coastal road or as an alternative road, through the hills (for our more adventurous cyclists). Pylos is the third most important historical town and has a medival castle like Koroni and Methoni. We will have a great view over the Navarino Bay, where Russian, French and English battle ships destroyed the Ottoman and Egyptian ships and set Greece free from occupation. We cycle from Pylos through Gialova where we have our lunch break to the Voidokilia-Beach, one of the most pictured and beautiful beaches of all of Greece.

Day 5: Pylos-Filiatra  38 km

This day is an easy bike trip along the coastal road through nearly endless kilometers of olive groves. A nice cruise and relaxing day of pure cycle enjoyment!

Day 6: Filiatra - Kyparissia - Kalo Nero  40 km

We continue to bike to Kalo Nero, a small seaside village, which is surrounded by 25 km long beaches, which are the nesting grounds for the Carretta - Carretta, the endangered sea turtle of the Mediterranean Sea. They lay their 80 - 100 eggs in June or July and hatch in August. We can watch this with our local environmental groups and guides.

Day 7: Departure

After having breakfast in Kalo Nero it's time to hit the road to the Airport.

Or: Stay in Greece for a little while longer, enjoy a few days in Athens and check out the world famous Acropolis, the Plaka or the Parthenon.

Or: Talk to us about all our other great Tours!

Tour 2: Castles, Culture and Coastline Tour

  • 150 km on trekking bikes
  • Level:moderate

Day 1. After your arrival to Kalamata airport, we drive you to the tip of the Messinia near Koroni and on to our first hotel.  This is a family run hotel, situated right on the beautiful coast.  Each room has a view of the sea, spacious, clean.  Each meal is hand prepared by the family using traditional recipes and local food. All meals are eaten outside while staring at the blue sea. If you should arrive in the early afternoon, it will leave time for our guests to freshen up, have a Greek siesta, or explore the little fishing village and old church.  Later afternoon, we will have a bike fitting session, gearing up for our first ride the next day.  That evening we will all enjoy our first Greek traditional meal together at the hotel.

Day 2.  After a very filling breakfast buffet, we start our 12km trek to the fishing village of Koroni. This ancient town was established in 365 BC and was known for being an important commercial center that even produced its own coin. We ride through the village and reach the Koroni Castle.  It dates from the 6th-7th century AD and is a very typical example of Venetian fortress architecture. We take time to have a tour of this magnificent piece of history.  We then cycle along the many olive and citrus groves on the one side, the blue Aegean Sea on the other, cycling approx. 35 km to our next destination.  The 2nd and 3rd night you stay at a luxurious 5-star hotel nestled in amongst farms and olive groves and hosting the most beautiful sandy beach. This hotel has a restaurant-buffet in which you can enjoy your evening meal. In the evening the hotel usually has local night time entertainment to finish off your night.

Day 3.  After our breakfast, the group will head out on a 20 km trek to the Archaeological site known as Ancient Messini.  An important archaeological site, also well preserved, a large settlement of classical antiquity.  It has temples, fountains, houses, theater, stadium, market, asklepion, tombs and a unique fortification with walls 9.5 km long, parts of which are preserved in very good condition.  The opinion amongst alot of people, including us, is it´s the best ancient site in Greece.  Bigger and better preserved than Sparta. There is a local Greek Taverna where you can have lunch while staring at the unveiled ancient city.  We cycle 20km back to the hotel, where we hope to enjoy another night of Greek music and dancing.

Day 4.  After breakfast we cycle along the coast again, this time 15-18km to the city of Kalamata. The area of the old market hosts an adventure in itself.  So a tour of the old city and market place is a must see.  As well as the history and folklore museum of Kalamata.  The old market place has the best Souvlaki and Pita ever!  That´s the traditional food for the Greek people.  Everyone must eat one while sitting next to the oldest Byzanine church in the city. Kalamata is also known for its famous olives and olive oil. It´s plump, purple-black variety that is found in delicatessens around the world. After the city tour and lunch, we bike another 5 km to our final hotel destination outside the city of Kalamata to another 4-star quiet resort. This beautiful resort has a few restaurants, one is overlooking the sea and their private secluded beach where you can enjoy cocktails or dinner while watching some of the most spectacular sunsets on the bay of Messinia.

Day 5. The last cycling day will occur after a good hearty breakfast at the hotel.  We will head out towards the end of the peninsula of the Messinia to a very well-known fishing village called Kitires.  It is about 15 km mountain-coastal ride.  Once there, you can sit seaside and enjoy an afternoon swim or hiking around this old village, and eating lunch by the sea at the well-known Mimi´s fish restaurant. We will head back the same way 20 km to our bike drop off in Kalamata. We then will drive the group back to the hotel for their last night.

Day 6.  Early rise and shine for the easy trip back to the airport.  Depending on your departure, you may easily take a more relaxing morning and breakfast.  We pick you up from the hotel and transfer you back to the airport in Kalamata.

Tour 3: Magnificent Mani

8 days/7 nights roundtrip

  • Day 1: Arrival Kalamata
  • Day 2: Kalamata-Kardamili
  • Day 3: Kardamili-Stoupa-Areopoli-Pirgos Dirou (Caves)
  • Day 4: Areopoli-Kotronas-Skoutari
  • Day 5: Skoutari-Gythio
  • Day 6: Gythio-Areopoli
  • Day 7: Areopoli-Kardamili-Stoupa
  • Day 8: Kardamili-Kalamata
  • Level: moderate to advanced

Byzantine chapels, villages with ancient watch towers, and stories of lawless chieftains, this is the Mani, at the most southern tip of Greece. Here we will cycle always within view  of the Taygetos Mountains, that form the spine of the Mani. Cycling along rolling hills speckled with Mediterranean vegetation such as Olive, Citrus and Cypress trees to pristine sandy beaches along sun drenched coastlines. The isolated aspect of this beautiful area, combined with the independent nature of its inhabitants, mean that some of the  traditions are developed separately from the rest of the Peloponnese and Greece. To this day, the architecture and history of the Mani is famous for its tower houses and fortified family dwellings from the period of the Ottoman occupation of Greece. Today the Mani remains a peaceful retreat from modern day life. Most of the villages remain slow paced and sun-beat. A truly magical experience on bike.
